The dace is a lovely little fish, with a fawn brown back and silver sides. It is famed for its quick bite at a bait, and fast responses are needed. They feed on insects and can be caught with an artificial fly – if you’re very quick! Dace like fast water, and so swift flows over gravels are a favourite haunt. A good fish weighs a half a pound, but what they lack in stature they make up for with their dashing spirit.
